Encouraging Diversity & Inclusion in the Legal Profession

Statement Released to Firm Personnel on June 11, 2020:

Fraser Stryker PC LLO has literally stood in the shadow of the Douglas County Courthouse in Omaha, Nebraska for over 100 years. As attorneys and advocates, we are proud to champion the fundamental rights of all who live in this country. While our beautiful courthouse may be a symbol of the rule of law, it also has been a focal point for inequalities that still exist in our nation. We fully support the rights of all to exercise individual liberties, to express their opinion, to protest peacefully, and to address our government.

While we are saddened at the tragic events that have unfolded in recent weeks, we have also been touched by the stories of so many who peacefully work towards change in our community, country and world. Over the last few weeks, the world recognized that something needs to change. The first step to change and fixing a problem is recognizing that one exists. As lawyers, we must do better. As a community and country, we must do better.

While we recognize that we may not fully understand the struggle others experience, we need to start with educating ourselves so that as attorneys and advocates we can become facilitators of what must change. We understand that building a firm culture that welcomes diversity requires consistent work, so our daily behaviors and actions must support this pledge. Actions speak louder than words.

Now, more than ever, we must embrace our role as advocates. As legal professionals, we are in a special position to assist with social change, advancing our society forward in the areas of racial and social injustice. It starts here. It starts now.
